§15-7-2.3 “Pharmacy technician” means a person registered with the board to practice certain tasks related to the practice of pharmacist care in this State within the scope of practice permitted by West Virginia Code Section 30-5-12, as provided, permitted and limited by the laws and rules governing the practice of pharmacist care.
Individuals eligible for a Pharmacy Technician Registration must meet the following requirements:

High school graduate or;

General Education Development (GED) Certificate Issued by Board of Education

Completed an approved pharmacy technician training program
Applications must be completed and include a 3X4 head and shoulders photograph. Completion includes the following if applicable:
If graduated from a competency-based pharmacy technician education and training program of a learning institution or training center

Certification from that institution that the applicant has successfully completed the competency-based pharmacy technician education and training program of this learning institution or training center must be attached.

Certification from the PIC (Pharmacist-in-Charge) of that pharmacy that applicant has completed the required 20-hour training program as outlined in West Virginia Code of State Rules §15-7-3.1(a)(3) and 3.2 must be attached.

Certification that applicant has successfully completed an approved national certification exam (PTCB or EXCPT) 3.1.b.2.

Copy of applicants national certificate must be attached

Certification that the information provided herein is true and accurate to the best of applicants’ knowledge, and that they are not an abuser of alcohol or drugs.
If completion of a 500-hour pharmacy provided, on-the-job, competency-based education and training program

Certification from the PIC (Pharmacist-in-Charge) of that pharmacy that applicant has completed the required 500-hour training program as outlined in West Virginia Code of State Rules §15-7-4 must be attached.

Certification that applicant has successfully completed an approved national certification exam (PTCB or EXCPT) 3.1.b.2.

Copy of applicants national certificate must be attached

Certification that the information provided herein is true and accurate to the best of applicants’ knowledge, and that they are not an abuser of alcohol or drugs.
If obtained a national certification as a pharmacy technician and have practiced in another jurisdiction for at least one year

Verification from home state licensing board must be attached.

Certification from the PIC (Pharmacist-in-Charge) of that pharmacy that applicant has completed the required 20-hour training program as outlined in West Virginia Code of State Rules §15-7-3.1(a)(3) and 3.2 must be attached.

Certification that applicant has successfully completed an approved national certification exam (PTCB or EXCPT) 3.1.b.2.

Copy of applicants national certificate must be attached

Per Rule §§ 15-1-4 Applicants must request a state and national electronic fingerprint-based criminal history record check through the West Virginia State Police process with the results being released to the Board. Please visit the L1 (WVSP’s agent) website at www.identogo.com or contact L1 at 1-855-766-7746 to complete the background check. You are responsible for any fees and costs. Background checks must be completed prior to applying for licensure through the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy. If you are currently a West Virginia resident, a 12 digit TCN number will be assigned to the applicant at completion of fingerprinting appointment. This 12 digit TCN number must be provided below to the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy as proof of completion. Nonresident applicants should follow the WV hard card process provided by L1 (WVSP’s agent) website at www.identogo.com or contact L1 at 1-855-766-7746 to complete the background check. Background check results are valid for 12 months.
